V10 5.2L Oil Consumption

Hey Folks,

Just picked up a 2008 S6 v10 5.2L, car has 21K miles on it after I put in just over 1500 miles.
Today the oil low indicator went off and noticed that the car needed a quart and a half of motor oil.
The operators manual states that depending on driving conditions the car will consume 1 Quart every 1200 miles. So, it appears that the consumption is being on.

Now, my question: How in the world can a car like this consume any oil at all? Specially with such low milage. My 2010 A6 3.0T did not consume a drop?

Do I have a problem? I do have extended warranty on the car, should I be worried?

Look forward to any guidance.

Thank you.

I have the same car. And yes, mine drinks oil as well. My 2004 S4 also likes a quart or so after a few thousand miles of spirited driving. First time it happened to me, i panicked, but then i read up on it and found out that S-models like their oil. I will normally top it up once between oil changes and that's it. It's unnerving but don't worry. Hope this helps.

The aluminum engines are designed to hold oil in the cylinder walls to help with the heat and friction. Therefore, more oil that usual is consumed. As the miles go up, the walls will wear down which allows more oil to slip past the piston rings causing excessive oil consumption. In the mean time, enjoy the Audi V10 symphony!
