Default 2004 Audi A-6 needs a better stereo

Just bought a used 2004 Audi A-6 3.0 quattro with the standard sound system. I love everything about the car so far (with all the options -- Winter package, etc.) except the sound. I don't think I can live with just the standard treble, bass, mids and the sound maximum barely loud enough to hear the real detail of the music I like... especially when my pals have Acura TLs with that damn DVD audio that sounds absolutely AMAZING for a smaller price than my car!

Is there a way to just swap out the standard system for an upgraded one, leaving everything else the same?

wat do u mean swap? U can go to any stereo shop (that u trust) and have them install new speakers, amps, subs, HU and everything. Or did u just want to change out the headunit? Also what type of stereo is in ur car? Is it bose?

I'd like to know this too. Is it possible to upgrade anything without changing the console on the dashboard? I like the look of stock more then those ricerish silver console things everyone gets.

i left the dash alone in my a4. i got the bose system in the car, a 1000 watt rocksford fosgate amp, 2 12's in the trunk, equalizer, and im gettin a crossover next. I love the setup cuz everything looks stock unless you open the trunk but then u crank it and people are like damn. never saw a reason to get a different headunit

Keep the stock radio/cd head unit. convert the speaker outputs from the amplifier and add on a crossover/ eq then add 4 chanel amp for front/rear and 2 chanel amp for sub(s). I do this for every car I have owned. That way you keep the steering wheel controls/hud.
