Arrow A8 "18 wheels on A6 with 18's

I'm *assuming the A8 and A6 OEM 18" wheels are the same but I'm not sure of this..they look identical in a picture. I need a second set for winter.

Just for info, if you ever change OEM wheels on a Audi A6 and you want to do it by the book, you'll need the VIN number and the wheel parts number for Audi to find the proper fitment. In this case, they were *almost the same wheels and Audi said they will fit but with one caveat, I will not be able to chain-up regardless..the 18" just does not have the proper clearance and that came from Germany..there is a very expensive flat synthetic chain that may do the job but it's also not approved..they suggest using a 17" if your in snow country and chain-up frequently. They said you can do serious damage to the brake system and other chassis parts if certain criteria isn't meant. It's not just a car but a precision instrument I was told in German

Default I don't think you need chains with winter tires

I Got a 04 A6 with 18" wheels on it. Last winter in November I bought a set of Hankook Icebear W300. Size on my wheels is 235/40R18. I used them all the way thru May since winter in Wyoming is pretty long and ruff. Took a few trips to Idaho over Teton Pass and some other icy roads. I NEVER thought of using chains on it. The ESP works great on Audis and these cars just do great in snow or ice.The most I would think would be studded tires. But even with the road covered in snow I was able to do 60 in a pretty straight line. You'll probably love passing ppl in winter time 'cause you can go pretty fast without worrying about going off the road.

My suggestion is to buy a good pair of winter tires, not the most expensive but make sure they are WINTER TIRES and NOT ALL SEASON. Hankook Ice Bear W300 were about $160 a piece @ Big O.

Gummireifendruckmonitoren sind dumme Vorrichtungen, die nicht Gesetz sein sollten. Ursachen nichts aber Probleme.

Very true, many people think "all-season" is appropriate that maybe true in Palm Springs but most places it's not the case, the new studless winter tires such as you suggested make a huge difference, I like and own a set of dunlop m3's and on the Audi I'll put basically the same (new version is the 3D) then our main problem will be defensive driving against all those who have "all-seasons"
