Unhappy New Kid in ATL

Atlanta here...

got my A4 recently....has a major oil leak...need help and/or advice

Took it to Jim Ellis Audi Dealer....he said its either the cam seals or 'adjusters' (god knows what they are)....and he cannot determine which until he actually opens up the car.

His Quote: Cam Seals - $2000
Adjusters (If thats where the problem is) - $6000

Where to get it fixed for cheap and reliably around here? And how to determine where the leak is without opening it up? The engine runs absolutely silk smooth, just leaks. Not too sure but I think it only leaks when the engine is running and not in standstill.

Thanks!

Default Carrollton Audi and VW Specialists

I found a shop in my back yard. Carrollton Audi and VW specialists. Its owned by two brothers; Joe and Jake. Joe worked for Porche and Audi for years and is a certified mechanic. They get their parts, aftermarket, from European wholesalers. They are excellent. Jim Ellis quoted me a timing belt change for $1800. These guys did it for $637. Thats changing the timing belt, water pump, flushing the coolant, and changing the serpentine belt. Their number is 678-601-3472. Located on Alabama Street in Carrollton.

Thanks! I will get in touch with them, they seem promising.

If there is any other contact around Atlanta also I would like to know them!

Default Great Audi Service in Tallahassee, FL

WAGEN HAUS (850) 980-8899. Located in the NE. Jon Porter is a great guy who knows his stuff. Also works on Porshes
The only other choice is the VW dealer who used to be an Audi dealer but you feel like a second class citizen when you are there.

Carrolton Audi quoted me an estimate of approximately $1800. That is just way too expensive. I'm taking the car in to Express Oil on Howell Mill tomorrow. Will post back on a verdict....here's hoping all goes well! (fingers crossed).

Thumbs up Final Verdict: Express Oil Change Howel Mill Rd.

Got my car back....

Final Verdict: 4.5 out of 5

These guys are pretty awesome I would say for people not dealing specifically in European cars. My final bill was $1300 with the entire timing belt job and seals change. There was also a leak in the adjuuster seals. He had to order out new tools which he took the cost of entirely on himself, and there was no increased charge for labor. The guy also seemed like an honest person and kept me up to date everyday about the progress. I would say definitely give a consideration if anyone needs help...the guy has beein servicing cars for around 20 years now so he knows his stuff..

I'm not giving 5 on 5 cuz when he reassembled the car there was a leak in the tube for the washer jets for lights, which would freeze up in atlanta weather. I took it back and he replaced the O-ring and also put anti-freeze in my washer flulid

anti-freeze in your windshield washer tank not the best idea they have formulated windshield washer fluid with out the anti-freeze as this is a hazardous substance .............. I know picky.......

But he could actually get fined for that..... just a FYI

I am glad it worked very well for you......

I'm gonna post on a seperate thread about this...but last night I noticed white smoke from my exhaust...kind of faint not really there and it felt like the vapor you get when you start the car...problem is that its there when the engine has warmed and has been driven....it does not smell sweet (which would have meant anti-freeze and a blown head) and it did not smell oily...don't really know what it was...maybe vapory....but does the water vapor still come from the exhaust after its been driven a while? (btw I DO smell oil up front in the engine bay, the guy told me its the crusted oil from the previous leak burning off)

I'm more concerned cuz of the work thats been put in the car recently...I would rather catch this possible virus in its seeding stage before it brings about any damage
