Default 2.7t vs. GXP

Had a little fun driving today, take this however you want because people always say BS on almost every thread on this forum. Anyway I have a 2000 A6 2.7t six speed (stock besides DV's and TBB). The opponent a 2005 or newer Grand Prix GXP. Cruising along the highway and this guy passes me twice and then slow down so I pass him at like 65. So the third time he pulls up to me I shift from 6 to 4 thinking he wants to play. So we are side by side at 75 ready to rock. I decided to let him make the first move. He punched it andlike that had a car on me, I immediately dropped it into 3rd and let her buck, by the time 3rd wasdone we were dead even. I ran through 4th gear and had 2 cars on him. Slap it into 5th and merge in front of him by about 4 cars at 125+. It was a great rush.

I know that the GXP's are fast cars and in the 1/4 mile should beat me, but I think I know why I won. Being as the only through 4 speed autos in those. When he punched it he probably didn't get 2nd gear all he had was drive, as for me I was able todrop it into 3rd at 5000 some rpms. The difference in gearing at that speed allowed me to have an advantage from the start that I was able to build on.

Thats my story and boy was it fun. You may now proceed to call me liar or whatever, I promise you won't hurt my feelings.

The GXP's are no joke from a dig......0-60 in 5.7, not bad from a 3600lb pig........I for one believe you. I used to have one of the GTP's (3.8L supercharged), and it was pretty quick off the line (240hp, 280 tq).....my complaint on the car was it only came in automatic.....and it was a 4 speed auto to boot......it was hit or miss on the highway when you'd jump on it. The GXP's are still using that 4 speed automatic.....Pontiac missed the boat there if you ask me.

Anyway nice kill.......

They're up some 50~hp on a 2.7T and weigh roughly the same. The GXP shouldn't have much trouble w/ one. Espec from a roll....

I know GXP's are fast 14.3 1/4 miles all day long. The fastest I have ever heard of a stockA6 2.7t six speed run is a 14.4 and that is launching from 5000 which I would never do to my car without some serious upgrades, in reality its around 14.7-14.8. That being said it doesn't mean that the GXP is faster in every single interval. If you read the post it was a kick down at 75, my lack of horsepower was made up by my advantage ingearing.

What advantage is gearing??? Enough to make up for a 50hp deficit, and the disadvantage of having added driveline loss and resistance due to your AWD???? From a dig, a 2.7T should give an LS4 car a fit, but from a roll, it really should be no contest. They've gone as low as 13.80's btw....

The advantage in gearing is staying at peak horsepower. You ever think about why there is a .5 second difference between a2002 nissan maxima 6 speed and a maxima 4 speed auto in the 0-60 mph, look it up. Its not rocket science, well to you it might be. But I guess thats why people line them up race. If eveyone just looked at numbers there would be no need for racing in any form. But whatever you can believe what you want.

SCG, do you have any links to a 13.8 second stock GXP? Not that I dont beleive you, I just dont know much about them. And if I am not mistaken, they are FWD, so without some gooooood tires, it is probably a really good driver.
I do not see why a A6 couldnt win the race.
