Default A6 2.7T vs. Z3 m series

well i was on my way to the gym cruising at about 75on the stock 87 octance setting in my a6. I see the m series z3(older version, not sure what yr, had the m logo and quad tip exhaust)coming around a hard turning on ramp juicing it a little.I wanted to play so i move my speed to about 80-85, and he eventually comes up behind me, and i see a huuuge opening with just me and him on a two lane highway(I-95). So im in the speed lane and he merges over and i can see him take off trying to pass me when he gets on the back of my bumper i punch it to the floor, and he sits there for a second until i start pulling on him slowly. As we flew down to about 125-130 we both shut down and i had about 3 cars on him, and he had the upper hand since he had charged at me while i was just cruising at 80-85. I slowed down to see if he would be in for a few friendly pulls but he wouldnt pass me or come up next to me(think he wasnt too happy he lost). I dont know any specs on the m z3 but all i know was it got pulled by a pretty much stock a6(since on the 87 setting, buthave diverters and gutted precats) pretty easily. If i was on the 93 octane he would have been toast. any insight on the z3 m seriesspecs?

Yeah, I don't think he knew he was racing. Shouldn't have been close. Those M coupes are 0 -60 in sub 5 secs.I know 0-60 times don't mean much, but that's light years from a stock A6 2.7T.

Wow, really. He was definatly coming at me, he was hanging on my bumper up to 115 or so when i started pulling. are you talking the newer m's or does that go for the 1st generation also, he shut down at about 125-130 so i dont think he wasnt racing. my gutted and precats and diverters wouldnt beat an m series that you speak of haha

Well, it depends. There were actually TWO different Z3 M Roadtsers. The first few years had the older spec M3 engine w/ 240 hp. They're low 14's w/ a good driver. The later models had the E46 M3's engine and 315hp. Those were some quick bastards. Deep into the 13's w/ a good driver. I could see you taking one of the older ones, but the if were a later year, he should've handed you your ***. But nice kill.....

Sorry I just can't picture even with a 240hp motor you takin one of em. They are relatively light at like 2700lbs and more aerodynamic then the brick that is an A6. Those M series motors are made for highway rolls,I just don't picture this happening. Sorry, but he was either playin with u,was shifting at 5kRPM,or was **** drunk.

Well i dont know who hangs with someone up to 130 mph and isnt racing, ive yet to see something of that sort. But feel free to try an call me out on lying about it Bob. Im not a little punk 16 year old who comes onto a forum to talk **** about racing when it never happened. I came too see what people thought about that m series z3 not to be called out. If it is in fact the e36 m3 motor in the z3 then he was definatly racing me. If you look to my previous thread in this section it was about racing my friends e36 m3, which i did and won by aconvincing amount.

Your car weighs 3920lbs empty and probably around 4200-4300 with you,a full tank, and the spare tire and that crap and only puts out 265hp. A Z3M weighs 2700lbs,puts out 240hp,has great ratios for roll racing and is pretty aero dynamic. SO,i'll say again I call Bs on the fact that the drive train loss with AWD is around 22% or so,where as RWD is closer to 15%. YOur putting down 200-215 WHP at 4200lbs for arguments sake. Where as the Z3 is also putting down 200-210 WHP at 2900lbs with the driver and gas. With the Z3 weighing a over a literal half ton less and with better ratios it's not happening. I can only see one of 3 things
1)The guy was humoring you
2)He was shifting at 5k
3)It was a 1.9 or 2.5 Z3 with fake M badges.

I still stand by my claim. If it was older Z3 M, I can see it. If it were a newer one, she should've wasted the Audi. The only way I see the Audi wining though, was because of it's tune.....

They're quick (the Z3 M), but they're not that quick. They don't have a whole lot of top-end, and their gearing kinda hurts them on a highway race. Hell, maybe the Bimmer driver just couldn't drive. Who knows....
