Default MIVEC V6 vs. 4.2

I was on the way home on the freeway last night from the Monday night Footbal game....Anybody watch it? I thoughtan upset was inevitable....Ravens were playing well last night....Anyways, I had the cruise setat a moderate 70 MPH and a 2006-07 Mitsubishi GT pulled up next to me. I didn't even see him because I was deep in thought of what to get my wife for Christmas and had tunnel vision. When I finally noticed him he was gunning the gas (keep in mind we are still at freeway speeds) and wanting to screw around. Here is the stats on the car:[*]Eclipse GT: Hardtop FWD model equipped with a 263hp 3.8L 24-valve SOHC Mitsubishi 6G75 engine

The freeway was empty and 6 lanes across so it was safe to play for a 3 mile stretch. Since it was raining and I didn't want to roll my window down at 70 mph (wouldn't hear anything anyways) I decided to just go when he goes. The dude finally figures this out and goes for it. I downshift to third (tip) and go. This guy got creamed. For the first5-7 seconds or so he stayed right with me then I just pulled away. I thought he was faking it. After all 263 HP is nothing topoint fingersat right? He left me alone after that but ended up getting off on the same exit I did. At the stop light we were both in seperate lanes and the road goes up a pretty long straight incline. Again, no cars so I know this guy wants to go. I thought it would be really close because they are supposed to be fairly light and I am basically driving a road tank. He got me on the jump to about25-30 and I finally hit my torque curve and pulled like 4 cars on by the time we got to the next light. We gave each other the horn and that was it. I hardly ever screw around and was a little dissapointed in Mitsubishi. I thought they had done a nice job with the 4th gen eclipse but for a stated 263 HP, it was lame. And the guy knew how to drive it. It just didnt have any more to give.

Nope, they suck. The last good Eclipse died in 1999. The 4g's are crap, the 3g's even bigger crap. I'm surprised you won by as much as did, they are decently quick, espec from a roll. Nice kill.

I got my kid an Eclipse. They are lame. Iwhipped him similar to your story. It was so bad that I thought something was wrong with his car. A few days later, we went to the dragstrip in our town. It was worse. You would think that a car as small at that would do much better

Very cool that you posted the Ecplise info on your post, but you left out something of major importance, it's wieght. The 2006 V6 wieghs in at a very portly 3560 lbs. It also has an extremely unimpressive mileage rating at 16city/26 highway. (My Z06 was rated 18/28) I love the story because for some reason, I have always hated Eclipses. "Agressive" looks from a big, heavy, slow, front drive car? Why? What kind of idiot would try to race sucha turd? At least a civic is small, light, and not trying to look fast.

Yeah, the eclipse is for bishes, totally de-tuned.
Just don't mess with a 4G63 MIVEC in an EVO. It would be embarassing.

Funny you mention it. I pulled that info from wikopedia and the stats don't include the weight. I just assumed they were lightweight. Still, 263 HP should move along that much weight just fine. My experience seeing it in action puts that to bed.
