Hi firstly im new here so hello everyone :)

Ive just brought a 1999 A4 se estate and have started work on trying to bring it back to its former glory, ive decided that im going to lower it 30 to 40 mm as the gap between the arches is just a little to big for my liking lol, i dont really know alot about lowering or good brands to go for (suspension/spring wise) so was after a bit of advice

1. I noticed that a lot of company's do springs that fit on the original shock are any of these actually any good or is it worth buying the shock and spring all together?

2.im on a budget but obviously dont want the ride quality to be crap so im not just looking for the cheapest im prepared to save a little to try and keep the ride smooth and nice?

3.could you guys recommend some brands that wont cost me the earth but are good quality?

All replys would be much appreciated so thankyou in advance, heres a piccie of the car :)

You can install springs on your stock shocks, but the ride will be crap. Bouncy, obnoxious, and unsafe. I had springs on stock shocks on my old car and it was very disconcerning hitting a bump at 70MPH.

I definately recommend either doing a "Sport" Spring/Shock combo: No ride height adjustment and no damping adjustment or Coilovers: Ride height adjustable, most offer damping adjustments too.

I have Bilstein sport shocks with H&R sport springs. It lowered my car around 1.5" in the rear and 2" in the front. I believe I paid around 650 for the set. It's a great option if you just want to drop it, and leave it. If you want to slam your car to the ground, go with coilovers. Bilstein, H&R, ST, do a search on the forums and you'll find plenty of other brands.
