Does Air Suspension "Wobble" by Design?

I test-drove an almost new A6 Allroad Quattro (320ps), with only 10,000 miles on it and felt the ride was 'uncomfortable' with some minor side-to-side roll on a straight road (may have been uneven) and also some over-leaning going fast round a long bend. My 11 year old A6 saloon with 115k miles on it and regular sprung suspension doesn't behave like this newer (and superior?) model. It has a better and more stable feel to its drive. Salesman said that the flutter in the (test-driven) car's handling is because of its air suspension, yet I thought that the only drawback with air suspension was the price and any on-going cost of repairs. The ride quality should be better? Any thoughts?
