Opinions - upgrading A4 Avant 1.8T suspension with S4, but not front springs?:

Hey folks,

I've got a 2002 (B6) "Sport" A4 Avant 1.8T with 130k. I got a slightly used B6 S4 suspension that I'm planning on switching into my Avant. I know the 2002 "Sport" was lower than later 2004 and beyond sport and possibly ultrasport. Plus, I feel like the back of my Avant is sitting a little lower at the moment.

As such, I'm planning on putting in the S4 struts for sure, but leaving the original springs up front. This is because of the whole S4 springs are set for the heavier S4 engine, than the 1.8T 4 cyl. (understandable). However, I'm planning on trying the S4 springs with S4 struts in the rear. I'm figuring that the rear could use newer springs and with the heavier Avant rear a higher spring ratio back there can't be the worst thing. I'm also planning on putting in an RS4 rear sway at some point in the near future (is there any need for a front sway with that? I haven't read about any need.)

I'd like to hear opinions and ideas on this hybrid idea. Think the rear will jump out, what effects of different ratio springs in front and back, etc.? Plus any other solutions/ideas are welcome. I figure I can always just switch the original springs back into the rear pretty easily.

I'm doing a lot of upgrades and repairs to this car, and just got it, so I'm trying to balance the budget. Plus this is a daily driver and won't see the track anytime soon, so I'm not interested in a true suspension upgrade or coilovers.

Thanks,
Forrest
