quick ? from a new guy
 

hey guys , obviously new here just got a quick ? for some of y'alls infinite wisdom ... :)
so i just got my first audi a4 quatro 2.8
the guy i got it from said it needed a passenger side ball joint ... got it ... buuuut he also said it needed a throw out bearing. so im thinking i dont know enough about that or the proper tools so im just gonna do the ball joint and bring it in. unless it turns out to be something i can do.
so my question is while im in 1st gear only, the car makes a terrible whining noise and somewhat of a clicking. once i shift out of 1st, the noise is gone completely. reverse is completely fine as well. would this indeed just be a throw out bearing? to my small knowledge of this it would seem like a throw out bearing would make noise any gear??
some1 plz help! if i can figure this out i may try to save some $ and do it myself
