Squeak...
Hi, I've just picked up a 2000 Audi A4 Quattro 1.8T and I'm getting a squeaking sound from the drivers side front wheel area. It can be duplicated pushing the car down, but I hear it going over bumps and turning(not as loud turning) as well. I know it could be the bushings or tie rods, any other ideas as to what it could be? Also, when breaking at higher speeds (like coming off the highway ramps) the same wheel seems to shake a bit...
Thanks :) |
You are more likely to find the help you need if you post up in the sub-forum specific to your car (in your case, B5 A4).
As for your squeak, it's most likely your control arms. Once they start to wear out, they sound like an old 88 Ford POS going over speed bumps or making slow speed turns (such as in a parking lot, etc). When I had my B5, I got the complete set from FCP Groton (which was an exclusively online Ebay company) for $230bucks and they worked great. They have since expanded outside of ebay, but they still have the same kit. If you're decent with some tools, you can do the job yourself in less than a day and save some serious cash. Once you're done, though, make sure you get an alignment. Welcome to the forums! |
Luk Schaffer makes a nice cross drilled rotor and amazingly they does not cost a fortune :D.
I think they're called performance brakes. Tell him to make sure that his calipers aren't frozen when installing new pads or rotors, better yet replace them or rebuild them if in doubt. This will help to insure longer life and no rotor warping. I've had mine on a Audi 200 Quattro for a year and been happy with them.
