Default VAGcom, Is it worth to buy?

I recently bought a 2002 a6 4.2. After started to read this forum, i learned that there is a software called VAGcom. Now my question is; is this software worth 300 bucks?

I read that you change the settings from usa to canada and be able to use fog lights without turning headlights on. Can i do that with my car? I do not want to jumper the fuses and wires.

What are the other benefits of having VAGcom, other that being able to read the error codes, and monitoring?

Thanks,

About $110 if you get an ebay cable and $99 software license. Definitely worth it.

I read somewhere here that ebay cables may harm the vehicle with that software. Is that correct?

I've never heard of the ebay cables 'harming' anything. I don't know how that would even work.

There are always perils using china made "things".

There are multiple combinations-options between software and hardware available.

On your car one should be able to get DRL w/o wiring exercises

I ended up ordering original cable and vagcom softwate. I am thinking that I am going to save money in the long run by owning this software. Repairshops ask 100 bucks for just troubleshooting anyway.

Thanks for the advices...
