I have searched everywhere locally, and only found one store that could get it for my 1996 A6, and it was $375 just for the hitch! (at U-haul). Anyone have one that would fit, or know where I could get a cheaper one? Thanks so much!

About 3 years ago I too was in the market for a hitch for my 1992 100CS (C4) and after A LOT of searching came upon a place in Boston that custom made hitches for Audi's (I can't remember off the top of my head what it was called but when I get a chance I'll look through my records and see if I still have it). The hitch cost me $395 plus $35 for the part that goes in the reciever and the ball and then another $25 for the special electrical hook up stuff - and installation wasn't included. I installed it myself which was actually really easy, all I had to do was remove the rear bumper and cover, bolt the hitch on, and then re-install the bumper and cover. The electrical wasn't bad either once I figured out which wires to splice into on the tail lights.

I don't have a trailer anymore and if someone is interested in buying a used one that should fit on any C4 car - make me a decent offer and it's yours. It is a really well built hitch and better than the one's that u-haul makes fit (I looked into u-haul back when I bought this hitch and wasn't too impressed). One thing to keep in mind is that if it has to be shipped this hitch is all one piece from side to side - it doesn't unbolt into sections like some do and weighs around 35 lbs or so (maybe a little more with the ball and part that goes into the reciever) so shipping might be expensive.
