Default SoCal: THE SPRING CLASSIC RoadRally 5/12/12

Santa Monica Sports Car Club/SCCA presents THE SPRING CLASSIC, a Regional Tour RoadRally, on May 12, 2012.

Written with driving enthusiasts in mind, THE SPRING CLASSIC will be a fun-to-drive, trap-free TSD rally that will feature a blend of exciting canyon roads, urban segments certain to keep navigators busy, and some of the most dazzling vistas that Southern California has to offer. If you’ve never run a TSD rally before, THE SPRING CLASSIC will be a perfect way to get started!

Registration and rally start at the Bank of America rear parking lot, corner of Devonshire and Sepulveda in Mission Hills. Registration opens at 9:00 a.m., beginners’ orientation at 9:40, first car out at 10:01. The rally will last about six hours (including lunch break) and will finish in the South Bay.

Bring your street-legal car, a navigator, a pen, a watch that can be synchronized with official rally time, and $50 for entry fees ($10 off if we receive your entry and payment by May 7th, and $10 off for SCCA members.) We'll give you a set of route instructions. The object of the rally is to follow the instructions at assigned average speeds in order to arrive at checkpoints exactly on time (to the hundredth of a minute.) And by the way: you won't know the location of the checkpoints until you get there.

It's not a race. We're sanctioned by the SCCA and run on public paved roads, so assigned speeds are within posted speed limits. BUT, the roads will be technically challenging and fun to drive, and the pressure of staying on time leads to a very exciting experience. We will award trophies in four classes of competition, based on equipment and experience. If you're a novice, you'll run in your own special class so you don't have to go up against the experts.

GPS-usage is permitted, and there are several good road rally apps on the market if you want to go that route, but neither is necessary to be competitive or to have fun!

More info and official entry form can be found at: cbs.smscc.org/TSC_2012_flyer.pdf

If you have any questions, please post them here or feel free to send me a PM. I hope to see you at THE SPRING CLASSIC…it’ll be a great day behind the wheel!
