Cal Club/SCCA and Santa Monica Sports Car Club are proud to present SPRING CLASSIC 2: TARGA MALIBU, the second-annual running of Southern California’s most exciting grand touring road rally, on Saturday, April 27, 2013.

Combining a traditional TSD navigational rally with the thrill of a canyon run, SPRING CLASSIC 2: TARGA MALIBU will deliver the quintessential So Cal sports car experience. Similar in concept to the Targa Newfoundland’s Grand Touring class, competitors will attempt to maintain a specific average speed across a pulse-quickening course through the twisting canyon roads of the Santa Monica Mountains (with a scenic stretch of Pacific Coast Highway thrown in for good measure.)

You don’t need any special equipment or past experience to compete in SPRING CLASSIC 2: TARGA MALIBU. Just bring your street-legal car, a navigator, a pen, and a watch that can be synchronized to official rally time. We’ll give you a set of route instructions at the start, with the object being to arrive at checkpoints along the route exactly on time (it’s not a race; we run on public roads, so assigned speeds will always be within posted limits…but that doesn’t mean we’ll be dawdling along admiring the scenery. The roads will be challenging, and the pressure of staying on time adds an additional level of excitement!)

SPRING CLASSIC 2: TARGA MALIBU is an SCCA RoadRally Regional Tour, and is a part of the national tour rally championship. It’s also the second event in Santa Monica Sports Car Club’s daytime rally championship series. The rally will be run to the Santa Monica Sports Car Club’s First Friday Niter general instructions (available at SMSCC Home Page.) Trophies will be awarded in three equipment-based classes, as well as a novice class for less-experienced competitors.

Registration opens at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 27th at the Bank of America rear parking lot in Mission Hills, 15300 Devonshire in Mission Hills (corner of Sepulveda, near the 405/118 interchange.) Entry fee is $45 per car ($5 off for SCCA members.) $10 discount if we receive your entry before April 22nd; entry form available at the SMSCC website. Bring your valid drivers license and proof of insurance. Beginners meeting at 9:40. First car off at 10:01 a.m. The rally should take approximately 5 ½ hours to complete, including a lunch break. Finish will be at Wolf Creek Restaurant and Brewing Company in Calabasas.
