Will 225/45/17 tires work on 17x7.5 wheels (B7)?
Anyone running 225/45/17 winter tires instead of 235/45/17?
Tirerack recommends either 235/45/17 or 215/55-16, but nothing in between.
I am running 235/45/17 summers on 17x7.5 (A4 S2.0T/2007) but have an opportunity of getting a great deal on some Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 (225/45/17). What about load index (min = 91?)
Also, there are more choices in 225 sizes for winters
Thx

The load index is the most complicated part about going with 225/45R17. The slimmer tire and shorter tire aren't a problem but since the original load index is 95 (or 1521lbs per tire) going with a 91 (1356lbs per tire) can be problematic and cause excessive wear if the vehicle is loaded to capacity. In the worst case scenario a blowout is possible. I wouldn't recommend it but if you drive your car alone 99% of the time you should be alright.
