Hi i was stuck for hours in a traffic jam and suddenly have a coolant warning and stopped the car inmediately (A5 2011).
I checked with the VCDS and showed me only one code:
4515 - Radiator Fan (V7)
P1950 00 [032] - Movement Restricted / Jammed
Intermittent - Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00000001
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 5
Mileage: 67292 km
Is there anyone can help me with this? it seems the bigger radiator (V7) is working but something is wrong.
I tested and the radiator works when i turn on the heater or / and the AC
It seems the problem is when engine got hot, it does not turn on itself, but manually works fine
Any idea, dealer says i have to let the car one day and they do the diagnose, is there any other way to check what is wrong?

The VCDS code indicates the V7 radiator fan isn’t engaging automatically even though it works manually. This can be caused by a faulty fan motor, a bad relay, wiring/connectors, or a temperature sensor/control module issue. You can check it yourself by inspecting the fan wiring and connectors, testing or swapping the fan relay, and using VCDS to monitor coolant temperature and fan commands in real time. If the ECU isn’t sending the signal when the engine is hot, the fan motor or control circuit may need replacement. It’s important to fix this promptly to avoid overheating in traffic.
Hi thanks by the way the car is an A5 2011 2.0T 155kw / EUR / CDNC petrol – 67k km-
I had this issue one month ago, and just appeared again this weekend again in a very long traffic jam. I monitored coolant temperature and fan commands in real time as suggested; and this is what I got:
In a brief:
-. First part of the ride:
Coolant Temp got 105C /Coolant fan 1 activation went from 10.20 up to 29.76%. Fan V7 (bigger) activates but not at high speeda and then Coolant temp went down to 99 C and activation to 10.20%.
-. But after stuck in a traffic jam coolant and engine got really hot so I got the problem:
Coolant temp began to go further 106C and Coolant fan 1 activation goes from : 14.79 - 25.13- 61.79 % until limit 90% (when Coolant temp is 117C). I checked the V7 fan is OFF and had to stop the car to protect the engine.
BTW engine oil kept going up to 115.7 C. I did not receive any Stop engine warning so far
-. After a few minutes with the engine off both fans activated (high and noisy speed).
I checked fault codes and radiator fan error appeared when got coolant got 117C

Fault Frequency: 2
Mileage: 67427 km
Date: 2025.12.03

---- Engine speed: 920.00 /min
Normed load value: 7.8 %
Vehicle speed: 0 km/h
Coolant temperature: 117 ∞C
Intake air temperature: 62 ∞C
Ambient air pressure: 740 mbar
Voltage terminal 30: 14.159 V
Unlearning counter according OBD: 40
To cool down the coolant temp took around 20-30 mins to get 100 C; with visual check radiator fans were still working hard. Engine oil temp cool down really quick
I tested later fans were working as:
-. I ran also Fan 1 control circuit test (from ENGINE -Output tests) without issues
-. Both fans activate always when I turned the A/C ON
So what could be the problem J293 fan controller or V7 fan itself?
Thanks
