Secondary air injection pump motor
"Whining Noise comes from Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Pump Motor -V101" - a quote from the technical bulletin 05-01 for 2000-2005 Audis.
I guess the motor bearing must be gone - when it engages on cold start it sounds like fire alarm for some 30 seconds.
The cost is ~$360 at http://www.usedpartslive.com. Anybody has a cheaper solution then replacing the pump, or good source for it?
thanks

Well, it turned out that after I took it out it has clips on the body of the pump to take the motor out. It is a simple 12V electric motor with no regulator or any other complex electronics with sealed ball bearings. I put a few drops of motor oil on the shaft and ran it for a few seconds a few times with external 12V power source (my battery charger) then put petroleum jelly on the bottom of the pump body, slid the motor in and it runs quietly now.
Saved ~$350 from the aftermarket or ~$650 from the audi dealer source.

bump for this thread since i need to take out my pump too and I can't work on the street without being quick about it. I got the pipes and bolts off the pump but i can't get it out of the bracket. I have heard you have to remove the bumper to take out the pump, anyone know if this is right?

now that i think of it, i dont think that ANY model cobalt has a resinator on the downpipe... so what makes you think that this one is not a cat, and in fact is a resinator?
