Just purchased a 2002 A6 Turbo
115k miles
I was pulling the radiator hoses to flush the system. In order to get a better view from under the car, I removed what look like air intake hoses, (maybe to the turbo?), which come from filter boxes on both sides in front of the engine. When I pulled the one on the drivers side a smalll amount of oil poured out. Any idea what's going on here?

Typical for turbos..

 

Normal. A small amount of oil leaks into these pipes and, since they are the low point in the system, the oil stays in the hoses. It actually helps since the oil will catch any additional dirt that sneaks by the air filter.

Is that where Briggs and Stratton got the idea to put oil in the spungy thing that is on my lawn mower?

 

Older filters use to be just oil filled cans the intake air got pulled through... like on old Ford tractors.

 

I forgot about that --- I guess we can blame Henry!
