Default can I put unleaded gas in a 2001 a6

I know the audi call for premium gas. Can I put unleaded gas in my car. Is anyone doing that right now. I went to some gas websites and they mentioned that you can put unleaded gas in a premium car. They say most manufactures, say put premium, so it will reach the maximum horsepower, but I want to know if anyone is currently doing that right now. Thanks.

The cars performance will suffer but you can do it.

Yeah you could, but like the above says, you will lose performance. I once put unleaded by accident into an Acura RL (takes premium), and at idle the rpms would act very sporatic and rev gently up and down. But other cars have done it and nothing bad happens.

All gases at the pump are unleaded. Yes you can use 89 octane in a pinch but should typically stick to 91 and above.
