Default S4 misfire please help

2000 Audi S4 6 speed A-box ecu

Hi, thank you for looking at this thread. I am using Vag-Com. The problem i am having is misfires on the passengers side of the engine cylinders 1,2,3. These misfires are consistent, however i believe the other side of the engine is being affected as well as cylinders 4,5,6 misfire intermittently. I replaced the spark plugs, the misfire seemed to have stopped for an hour or two. However when i started the car up again, the misfires continued. Then i proceeded to switch the coil packs from one side of the engine to the other, there was no change. Now i am thinking it might be the ECU? Is it a cam position sensor?
Vag-Com reveales the following codes:

16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
35-10 - - - Intermittent
16685 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
35-10 - - - Intermittent
16686 - Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
35-10 - - - Intermittent
16687 - Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
35-10 - - - Intermittent
17538 - Fuel Trim: Bank 2 (Mult): System too Lean
35-10 - - -
17536 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Mult): System too Lean
35-10 - - - Intermittent

dude dont think so hard about it ... look at the last two codes you got there... system too lean means not enough fuel without fuel how can your cylinders fire?
Check your fuel supply.. maybe your filters clogged start replaceing the easy stuff first like filter then if no luck fuel pump at least thats where I would start...
it could be the timing issue or the ecu but check the other stuff before droppin $$$ into it

A lean mixture could be caused by a vaccum leak.

Most likely a bad MAF sensor, you can find a used one at car-parts.com or go to the dealer and pay 150 bucks or so.

This has occurred many times over at audiworld, and the common resolution was the MAF sensor.
