I bought my 97 A4 1.8TQ without an owners manual a few months ago. I was admiring the headlight windshield washers and noticed there wasn't a button for it! After an hour of messing around without getting them to work, I quit. How do I turn them on?!?!

Also, there is a square button on the vertical beam between the driver and rear passenger seat on the drivers side, what does this do?

Thanks!

The square buttonbetween the front and rear door pillar down by the drivers seat is the Alarm Bypass switch. Press this and shut the door and lock the car. The alarm system is not armed, but the car is locked. You only have a few seconds to do this after you press the button.

yeah I think that button on my car is broken too. I thought it was a motion sensorswitch though, for the alarm.

yeah I only use it if I leave the dog in the car, or I want to leave the sunroof open... If I leave the windows or sunroof open and set the alarm, a simple breeze through my car will set off the alarm...

I should learn how to use my VagCom to set the sensitivity I suppose. But I haven't been able to find the codes for it.

You want help guys, give me a shout. VAG-COM or buttons...! The button on the centre pillar switches off the internal sensor of the alarm, thats all. If the car draws power for example when the alarm is on, the alarmwill still sound. VAG-COM sensitivity for the internal sensors...I have that documentated somewhere...if you want it give me a shout: Rob on robbie_beaton@DELL.com ("").
