older TT or newer IS300?
Hey everybody,
This is my first post here but I have been reading through pages of threads and it has definately helped out, but now I want to know what you guys think. I've narrowed down my choices for a car and I want either a TT or an IS300. I have found a 2005 Lexus IS300 with 20K miles on it for $25,000. It's in great shape and I love the car, though it's an automatic.
I have always loved the TT but I want a hardtop and the only one i can find around here for under $25K is a 2001 Audi TT 180Quattro. It has 89,000 miles on it, manual, and in great shape. He is asking $13,000 for it, but I'm hoping to get it down some. He has also just listed it on eBay, so now i've got to make my decision quickly.
Please help me decide what to pick, the gorgeous and fun to drive Audi with high miles or the more practical, and expensive Lexus.

13 k isnt bad at all , but take into account sales tax etc your looking at 14 total.
yea is300 is a nice car if you got a long commute, my cuz has one. nice straight six motor, Its not what you would car fats even with mods , but it will run for a really long time. Also i think the interior is sweet with the cluster. But end of teh day its a four door vs coupe practicality vs style.
For pure fun factor to boot around in , TT w/ software upgrade is a blast , not a true all out sports car , think of it as a well sorted hot hatch.

I had a similar dilema when purchasing my last car. I drove the IS300, and it was nice.. don't get me wrong. It was quick... just not the quick I felt when I drove the TT. I'm talkin' the quickness that throws you back into your seat when you hit the gas off the line.
That's when I fell in love with the Audi. Can't beat that turbo feeling!
For me, another factor in siding with the TT was the interior. I felt like, for the price you're paying for the Lexus.. you're getting a Toyota interior. There's no question about it, it's just cheap looking plastic everywhere. There really is no style or finesse in the design on the inside of the car. On the TT, you're getting an interior that's been talked about everywhere as being the fashion statement of the auto industry.
Here's a excerpt from a review of the TT on the interior:
I figure.. you spend most of your time IN the car, you might as well get something nice!
Now, of course there are many many other factors to consider in choosing your new ride. Having an actual usable back seat for example, is always a plus in some situations.
My suggestion, drive both cars.. then make your decision.
A note on the pricing, I picked up my '02 TT Quattro Coupe last February for $19,200 with 35K miles on it. Search and ye shall find!
Good luck!

Cool interior
A real treat, though, is the unique detail inside this car. Usually buyers choose a car because of its outer styling, which they often can't see or enjoy from the driver seat. Not so in the TT.
Prominent on the TT dashboard are machined aluminum parts—many of them carrying the theme of the TT's circular, silver-colored fuel-filler cap with exposed screws that's reminiscent of quick-release caps in racing.
The TT's heating/cooling vents have this theme; so does the gearshifter. Overall, the TT certainly makes a fashion statement—friends and onlookers repeatedly described this car as "cool." And did I mention a gaggle of teens even screamed and gushed over the TT? I kid you not.

Also another factor you shoulld consider , owning a torquey turbo motor vs a silky smooth six, your gonna get about the same gas mileage. It depends on what enjoyment you derive from driving a car, theres nothing like winding out rev loving engine in my opinion. which is why i will eventually will get rid of my TT and pick up a Z3 M coupe.
Have u thought about the 3.2 or even bimmer 330ci , that six is just smooth as silk.

I own both a 2001 audi 225tt and a 2004 IS300. The cars are so different. It depends if you want that performance feel thats going to throw you back and feel the bumps or a more laid back comfort ride with a little sporty feel. The reliability goes hands down to the Lexus, but the pure performace driver would go with the audi.
