Question Re: newer s4 vs. older s4
first post, looking for a new ride, tired of wheel spin causing loss at launch in RWD 02 m3.
NOt sure what to get - s4 with 8cyl or s4 with 6cyl? Can you give me any suggestions that would sway either way (of course, older is less cost, but ignoring that too). I don't care about gas costs/mileage.
Primarily, i like the allure of AWD. Are 0-60 times comparable in 02 vs 04 s4 cars?
obviously i'm looking for used rides
thanks for you veteran knowledge and input.
and yes, audis are better than m3 .....(newbie bows head and waits for acceptance

The newer (v8) s4s are faster stock, but with a couple grand you are faster, and if you put the price difference between the models into mods, you can go stage3+ and be where z06's wont touch you.
Do you plan to mod the car substansially or go with mostly stock? If the latter and you have the $ I would get a new one. If you were going to pour $ in to mod up the car - working from a 2.7t gives you far more options and room to play $ wise. With an older S4 plan on lots of maitenence expenses as well. Both are great cars - n par with the M3 but very different. You should test drive some and see what you think. Older S4s will feel very shaky unless they have been lowered and had some suspension work - I gether the newer ones are much tighter - same goes for the shift action - older are sloppier and almost require short shifter UG to be decent.
do you just want a quick car? if so, go with scooby and save some dough. if you want a classy mod car hit up the b5 that engine has too many options (if you have the cash) but if you want a fast, great handling daily driver with bells and whistles, go with the b6 or 7. just the newer model means less wear than the b5 goodies. but again, if you need quick and fast and absolutely love mods and have $, then a b5 can smoke the 6 or 7.

Then go with the b5. Very modable....I think you want to look at one of the later years...like a 2001.5 or 2002. But some of the b5 guys will have to help you with that on. The b6 and b7 are great, but there is not much you can do to mod the v8.
