Default 0-60 times for automatic s4's

Just out of interest could someone confirm that whe S4's are tested for 0-60 times do the testers use the auto transmission in "D" or use autobox through the gearbox almost like a manual?

Just wondering as I would think a 0-60 time through the gearbox would be as quick as a manual gearchange.

best regards
Rake

My car does 0-60 in 5.02 seconds (G-Tech), 2001 S4 Tip, with an MTM cat back. runs an 1/8 mile in 8.84, And it will still shift for you in tiptronic, so I just keep it in D unless I am going through the turns. Monday my car is going in for KO4's and I will be runinng APR KO3 software (so i don't blow up the tranny). I will let you know what you can get out of an tip car... in about a week or two.

for the b5, audi claims 6.5 sec with a tip, 5.9 for a manual

The differences in time between the Tip and Manual in the B7 model are much closer. Also in the B7 (and possibly B6 but I am not sure), the Tip will never shift, regardless of what gear you're in. You can take it all the way up to redline in all 6 gears. I think the timing difference is 2-3 Tenths of a second, *if* you're a very good stick driver and are doing everything perfectly. In all other cases there is no noticeable difference in speed. Again, I'm talking B7 here.

I just had the GIAC tiptronic chip installed in my 02 S4 yesterday and im pretty sure there is no manual shifting as fast as me now. It shifts QUICK but still manages to not be too jerky. Supposedly drops the shift time from 1 second to .2 seconds. Major difference. Now if I can just find out where my boost leak is to enjoy the full effect of the GIAC ECU chip installed at the same time.

this may be true, but you are loosing substantial hp to the auto transmission, hence manuals always are faster than their tiptronic counterparts

I thought the main reason a tip was slower than a manual was due to weight difference and ability to launch? Flame me if im woring but i dont think "you nare loosing substantial hp to the auto transmission
