Hey Guys,

Need a little help trying to troubleshoot my problem. I have a '97 A4 1.8 Quattro. When I bought the car it had some problems with 2nd gear. If I didnt hold it back while making a turn it would slip out. It was serious but I didnt have the money to get it fixed right away. NOW my problem went from bad to worse. If i'm driving straight while holding 2nd gear back as soon as i let off the gas pedal 2nd gear doesnt slip out anymore......but SHOOTS straight into neutral. What is the cause of this is it my syncro or gear box(i'm guessing i have no clue)? Thanks for the help in advance guys. If this is posted in the wrong section just let me know where it should be.

ya bad synchro... and for the love of god, however you go about resovling the problem, please dont go to aamco....

 

Thanks....I guess Aamco is overpriced?? How would you go about doing it? Should I try to find the part and have somebody with there own shop do it? Can it be rebuilt?? THanks

 

Rebuilt by a reliable shop, or get a used one from a junk yard.
