Hi All - Need Some Opinions Mixed With Some Facts
hi all
before any flames start... i didn't do a search yet for my questions since i just signed up but.....
currently own a 2002 stage 2 wrx .. have had it the last 4-5 years... love her but i'm thinking it is time to mature to european class.
i LOVE audi... have for quitea few years, but the new 2007 models have persuaded me to take a serious look into upgrading. never owned one before so i am still definitely a newbie to how they handle, ride, etc.
i LOVE the rs4 and that would be my first choice (assuming the same for the lot of you.. well.. besides the r8) but since i do not want to have that kind of payment right now...er.. well ever.. but yah.. my options are a loaded a4 with the v6 - 6 speed quattro or its beefier s4 brother (6 speed as well).
my questions -
which one is more preferable? i like the subtle styling differences of the s4 more than the a4 (altho the a4 looks a little sleeker in the front, yah?).. but my concerns/questions are in the realm of performance. i'm not new to tuning and modding but know nothing of the capabilities of audi's upgrades.
i am pretty over having a turbo (lag times, etc) but i have heard/read that the new a4's have a barely noticeable one. true? so.....i'd like pro's & con's of both the a4 w/ turbo and the one with the v6. and also of that and the s4.
what perfomance mods and upgrades can you do to each (i know you can do anything with $$.. but let's just say for the common person who doesn't want to spend as much as he would for the rs4..hehe)
to sum it up....... for the $10k you save in getting a loaded a4 (turbo or non) instead of an s4.. can you make it match the s4, performance wise... or would it be a safer bet getting the s4 and calling it a day?

I think the B7 S4 is a very stout car with a well engineered motor and it would take a good amount of modification to get an A4 of the same year to perform as well. The turbo lag is very minimal in the A4 due to a small turbo but I would opt for the V8 that comes in the S4.
