check engine light on 2001 A4 -1.8T

Does anyone know if the check engine light comes on automatically when the speedometer hits certain mileage markers-- to change the oxygene sensor or whatever? I just had the light come onor about90,000 mi. Thanks.

It comes on when something is not right. I've had 3 CELs in 127K mi.
Have it scanned and post the codes.
