Default aftermarket stereo install question

I have done alot of reading but there are not to many threads on the B5 S4 specificially so I figured I would post here to be sure I buy the right thing before I waste my money

from what I have read I need these

Metra 99-9102: double DIN installation kit , according to Metra's site this works

Metra 70-1787: Wire harness to intergrate an aftermarket radio with the stock BOSE amplifiers , does the 2002 S4 have the bose amplifiers? or do I need a different harness, metra does not list them on their site for some reason but I see it all over ebay and here thats the part number.

I am not sure which stereo to go with yet, if anyone has any suggestions that fits the stock look let me know, I have a brand new kenwood but the screen is blue and that wont look to good lol

PS my car has the bose system if that matters, I dont know if that was optional or not. But I just read another thread saying you would need to re-wire all the speakers because of that??? I dont understand why you would need to re-wire the speakers. here is the thread https://www.audiforums.com/m_397012/tm.htm

Hallo! I´ve got the S4 B5 with an original BOSE Sound-System and the original concert 2 Radio. This sound system has an BOSE-Amp. As i added a aftermarket Radio (Alpine) i´ve needed an adapter that i´ve bought from an friend. He doesn´t needed it anymore. I think you can get this adapter directly from AUDI.

Greets from Austria.

My understanding of the bose system is that it is a preamplified system and it runs on different ohms then a standard stereo. hence the rewire, I have also been told you need to replace all the speakers as well. Now i have heard ofthe metra partsfor thewire harness, itoffers a direct plug and play, which should work. (IMO the metra harnessses are so much nicer then cutting and splicing)Also there are conversions i forget what they are actually called. But it integrates your aftermarket stereo with the stock speakers.

Superdug is mostly right, depending how u rewire everything, yes you will most likely need new speakers shortly cause its a different impedance then what the after market radio puts out.
Either way i know the system is "Bose" but it still sucks. Paper speakers, are terrible and 99% of factory cars have them. So even if u dont wanna spend the money just buy cheap $50 pairs of speakers and they will be better.

i just put in a new dvd stereo system on my 2001 s4 with bose. the labor and parts cost me about $400. the guy hooked up two mono amps, the dvd player and subs but kept the bose amplifier and original speakers functioning. car sounds great. i use a guy called Joshat bestbuy in battle creek, miwho has done all my cars for years and he said the s4 is really complicated. best buy has the wiring harness and i used the metra 2000-2002 audi a4 dash kit. im sure if you call the bestbuy he will answer your questions and give you input. changing and rewiring all the speakerswould bemore costly.

Hooking up an aftermarket stereo and subwoofer is a PITA on this car. The metra kit I got for my radio didn't even fit correctly even though they said it was for the S4. So I had to file some plastic down to get it to fit. I've had an aftermarket stereo in my car for a year n a half now and still haven't had any speakers blow yet, knock on wood.

Also, if you ever need to find a hole to put a power wire through the firewall. There is a rubber grommet up above the brake and gas pedal. It goes through the firewall and pops out right next to the battery. Hope that helps.

regarding that hole in the firewall, i used that for my boost gauge, and i always run 4 gauge pwoer wire in all of my installs do you know of a better hole through the firewall then the one next to the battery that i can put my boost line through?
