Audi - Used Car Value
First off, I am a new member of this form!! I purchased my first Audi in December (03 A4 1.8T Q) for my son. I liked it so much that sold my Honda Odyssey and bought a 2004 A6 S-Line for myself last week. It is expected to arrive via carrier on Wed or Thursday and I can't wait. When I bought the S-Line, I had no idea the mod options available for the car and I'm already very impressed with the information and support available from this forum.
Besides the quick introduction, the purpose of my thread is to mention used car values. The Audi's that I bought this month have cost me $12,400 and $16,100 (a4, a6 respectively). The A4 had only 34k miles and the A6 has 48k miles and still has a warranty. Honestly, in my efforts to find used cars, I had a hard time finding a comparable late model Honda Accord or Toyota Camry in that price range (not to mention a Lexus, BMW, or Mercedes.) Pricewise, I think I did fine on both cars, but I don't believe that I stole the cars by any means.
Am I drinking my own bath water, or is there some serious value right now in buying a used Audi? Maybe I'm going to pay for these cars in service costs (and it if it's not service cost, I'm sure that it will be mod expenses
). I'd be interested to hear some of the thoughts of the other members here.
What i have noticed is that Audi's hold their resale value, but not until later in their life. Where a Honda will only drop a few percent of resale value from the purchase price.
Yes you will have added service cost for an Audi that you wouldn't have with a Camry or Honda for instance.
High end foreign have parts that i believe are made from "un-atainium". For instance i had to replace my alternator in my 03 3.0 a week before my mechanic could find one.

I use Chris Semple at Force Five Auto in Concord NH 603-223-6700 for most of my Audi and VW parts. He has used and new stuff.

I am in the used car buisness in NCand we specialize in Audi/VW/and Mercedes. I have noticed that audis prices vary depending on what part of the country you are in(more expensive where weather is worse, higher demand for AWD). Audi's are not as popular as toyotas or hondas so obviously there is less of a demand which means it wont hold its value as well, especially in the first couple of years. The Audi market is very limited, only people that want a very fine engineered car and know the things that come along with buying a german luxury car(expensive services/parts) buy them, but 95% of the people that buy them love them. I am able to find Audi's and VWs for very cheap, way below trade in value even just because no one around here wants to mess with them.
As a dedicated used car buyer, I have to agree that Audis represent a very good value due to their rapid depreciation in the first few years of their lives. That's why I bought mine: for the price, the deal could not be beat!
Great price on the S-Line! If it is straight, I think you may have stole it!

Audi's don't hold their value as well as BMW or Mercedes, which is tough for a new car buyer but great for us. Another fine sports car with the same problem is the Chrysler Crossfire.Especially the SRT6 versions with the supercharger. They stopped making them and I expect prices to stabilize or rise.
