Default Timing Belt? Can I Do It My Self?

Is it that hard to do that you need a professional to do it and pay them $700?

If your good with tools then you should be able to do it. It just takes some time and patience. And be careful not to screw up the timing. Buy a cam lock tool or build one that holds them in place. I don't think it should always be left up to the professionals unless your no good at working on cars.

I think only you can answer this question. First time, I would expect 12-24hrs to replace it.

Do a search under my name & see pics & my thoughts on doing it...

I don't have experience working on audi's but i've worked on pretty much everything else. Domestics, japanese, and a vw 1.8t. How many hours would you think it would take? How long does it take you experienced guys?

Idk if you saw, but 2k said it should take 12-24hr for first timers. But I've seen that some people say that they have finished it in 8hrs. But I'm assuming that they know what they're doing since I'm sure that removing part of the front end isn't an easy task. I'm a bit weary to do mine in a few months. But luckily my father has a B5 A4 and wants to change his timing belt too. So I've got extra help, AND if I screw something up I can look at his for a template.

Well see that's what I'm wondering because i can do general removal and install of parts pretty quick. I have a lot of practice with that crap.

What I'm trying to figure out is how involved is the actual t-belt change. I'vedone DSM's timing belt without a cam lock tool and it's a huge bitch. Just wondering if most of the labor time is in front clip removal? If so should be cake, just time consuming.

Theres a DIY so you can get a feel for it.... If you dont use a cam lock bar (you really should) you need to be CERTAIN that its not off even by 1 notch otherwise youll have trouble. Id say its more time consuming than difficult, if you have some experience figure on the low end around 10-12 hours
