I bought my wife an 01AllRoad and was thinking the same thing but no one really does a chip for them and the ones I found didnt add much to the performance of the vehicle. As a truck driver I get around and recently while on the northeast corner I came across an old Import shop an the guy there told me that putting in a chip wouldnt be noticable at all,you would only see it in the numbers like a dyno. But if you do find one that makes a difference please let us know.

Well it's already a pretty zippy engine... so I imagine you'd need to push it before you see any big difference. If your wife is really a leadfoot racing ricers at the stop lights... I'm sure she'd notice. Otherwise why invest in a chip or mods?

For me it's mostly 'cause the wife has all but taken control of the other car 'cause the extra heft in the allroadbugs her when trying to get a move on...lol.
I love the car, but I miss having something with more pickup. I'd like a little extra pep pickup in the allroad. It's a heavy car and moving that heft just feels like work. Also, I wouldn't mind upping the mpg a bit and I think a chip that will make the car run leaner would help.
The 2.7t has a lot of poetntial with chipping in terms of power gains. My main concern is killing the thing prematurely by doing the mods or having all kinds of chip related ECU issues.

Thanks for posting the torque and hp gains. And to answer your question about the wife...yeah, she's a lead foot for sure.

Probably not worth chipping the allroad, but I might do it if it means I can get the other car back...lol.

Idont thinkturbos would last 20k miles. You can get more power by chipping it(which cost $600)but for long shot i'd put rs4 turbo kit(costs more than $4000). Though it cost lot more, you'll have much more power like 400hp without abusing your turbos.

Hey, I've heard (and seen on this forum) many comments about how the APR chip, which is made for the 2.7T allroad, makes a significant difference. The main reason I'm not doing it is that my CPO will be around for a while.

That is exactly why I'm looking into the more expensive exhaust mod. I would like to put a full APR system in, turbo-back. Apparently, Rapid Parts in Monsey, NY does it, as well as chip installations. They can even do a camouflaged chip that can be switched back when you bring it in to the dealer. I'm still hesitant to lose the CPO on a car that can have such expensive repairs. So, the exhaust will be my first mod...when I can afford it.

Ditto on the CPO. Just my luck the mods would knock it out of warranty just as something major went wrong.

I have an 03 allroad with the GIAC chip and apr r1 diverter valves, ~40k miles. The difference is performance is staggering... I dropped my 0-60 from 7.4 to 6.3. GIAC is the most aggressive chip and advances the timing a lot at higher rpm's. The top end is a lot stronger now. I wouldn't worry about turbo wear if you are a modest driver; I floor it maybe once or twice a week.
The APR chip is also really good and probably a little easier on the turbos than GIAC. You can also switch programes on the fly unlike the GIAC chip.

APRs option to switch the programs makes me lean towards them. I'm not going to be pushing the car at all...maybe on rare occasion I'd like to hammer down. I'll need to learn more about the various programming they offer. Some of the terms they use aren't familiar to me.

csobel, how long has your car been chipped? How many miles you put on it since? Any problems that you've experienced after having it done?
