Default Help Pls! Luggage Compartment Cover Fastener

Can someone help, please?

On my "BRAND NEW" 2001 TT Quattro Coupe, one of the SIDE fasteners for the luggage compartment cover (screen) is "out" of the cover. I JUST bought the car and don't know how it got this way. Without the positive locking connection, it rattles.

The fastener does not look broken.
The end of the part that goes into the cover looks almost like the tines of a fork.

I have tried to push it back in, but it is stubborn and I do not want to force it for fear of breaking it. I have, of course, removed the fastener from the ball and socket connection on the car, to make things easier.

Any and all advice appreciated!!
I REALLY like this car!!!!

The luggage compartment cover is removable.
As long as you have the pin to hold each side in place there should be no reason to worry.
Just push it back in you won't break anything, except maybe a fingernail! I always hate when that happens!

Congrats on the TT! Got any pictures of the car?

Thanks OuTTie, for the info. I have already removed the cover to make it easier, but really struggled and could not insert the clip (forkpart)very far. It's so difficult, it makes me think there may be some other issue. Do these things come outoccasionally.........maybe if you shut it on something?

I do have pics, butthey were "too large" and not sure how to resize.

You have to tilt it way up to slide it in all the way

Guys, I tried to insert this clip into the cover again, to no avail. I do have the cover removed from the car. As I push harder on the clip, it begins to pry the seam in the cover apart. I'm beginning to wonder if its the right clip, or if the cover is perhaps upside down, which if reversed would seem to give the clip more room in the right places. Which side should be up, the side with the smaller or the deeper screen recess? I'm suspecting the previous owner had an issue somehow and couldn't install it either.
Mayby I'll have to makethe first trip to the dealer today to see if they can help......
Ideas????

Update:
I just returned from the local Audi dealer. The mechanic also couldn't insert the clip into the cover when he tried. He was afraid to force it for fear of breaking one or the other. Nobody had ever seen this issue. Next they sent me to PARTS to see if the cover upper and lower halves come apart (the clip inserts between these two halves). The parts blow-up doesn't show it separated, and the Service Mgr later said if it was separated, the screen would pull out and I'd need a new cover ($280.00). As the clip is pushed, the two halves are forced open more than normal. Nobody there wanted to apply extraordinary force and I left withoutit being fixed.
Does anyone know if the upper and lower halves (on either side of the screen material itself) come apart? This whole thing is baffling.........it looks so simple yet NO ONE has succeeded. Everybody tries the same things, and goes thru the same logic not understanding why it doesn't fit right in.
HELP!!!!!!!

Another update, for closure:

Outtie and Cincy, you were both right. I finally decided to either force this clip in, or break it while trying. Thankfully even though it looks WRONG as it's going in, it eventually snaps in and the upper and lower halves of the cover that were being FORCED apart, come back together correctly.
Funny.......not even the dealership and the long-time mechanics they had knew what to do.

Thanks to you both for your advice......it was spot on, but I was just afraid to apply the force required.
Luggage cover is now back in place and fastened securely. Thanks again. I LOVE THIS CAR!!!
