Default Wheel Size

Hi. I'm new to the forum, so first and foremost, I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Doug and I live in MA. I just bought a 98 1.8t 5 speed AWD w/ just under 100K. The car is my first Audi, but I can already tell why people loves these things so much. Anyway, I've been doing some research on a few things I want to do to the new ride, dv, cb exhaust, cai, chip, the usual stuff. Most of my questions on those items have already been answered through other posts, but I couldn't find an answer to a question I had regarding larger wheels and the quattro system. Now forgive my noobishness if this has already been answered, but the guy at the used lot was completely against putting larger (prob 18s) on the A4 because, as he claims, the quattro system isn't designed for larger wheels, and therefore could screw it up. I think he was BSing me b/c I see larger wheels on A4s all the time. Is there any truth to this at all? Also, who is the best resource to recalibrate the speedo and odometer, etc after putting on the larger wheels? Any help ould be great. Thanks

hi welcome but no theres not a problem putting larger wheels on a quattro the only thing that has any truth is that they all need to be the same hieght, you can run a stagered set up but not with hieght only width, that guy is and idiot

Assuming you have the same overall wheel size (i.e. if you have stock 16" rims and go to 18" make your tires 2" less "tall") then you won't need to recalibrate anything because they will have the same ratio!

Simply put, yes you can run up to 19s on the A4 just lower the tire profile the higher you go to prevent rubbing. Its not recommended to run staggered wheels on a quattro (ie 18s upfront, 19s rear), it only works for the FWD.

unless you figure out the ratio and get the right tires then you can run that

[sm=youreright.gif] But it'll look weird with high profile tires upfront and thinner low profile in the rear.

IMO 18s with 225/40R18s is the way to go.
