02 A6 4.2 brake pedal feel question
The issue is the pedal doesn't feel as high or firm as other cars I have had, including my lowly Dodge Caravan. It has been this way for a few years and since I am driving it, finally starting to get annoyed with it.
New rear calipers last year with pads, Front rotors and pads about 2 months ago, they are now bedded in. Stainless steel brake lines.
Bled recently with a pressure bleeder. Moved from RR to LF sequence.
Calipers are not frozen. If the pedal is pumped once, the pedal height is higher. The front has the 4 pad setup with the bigger dia rotors.
Any ideas what I may be overlooking?
thanks Ed

When you bled the system did you replace the old fluid? That should be done every 2-3 years because it absorbs moisture.
Did you bleed the ABS Pump? You will need a VAGCOM to do it. Also inspect your stainless steel brake lines which connect the hard lines to the calipers, make sure they are in good shape. They are known to fail and are not as durable or as safe as the OEM lines.
Do this test. Press firmly on the brake pedal with the car running. If the pedal continues to move to the floor you need a new master cylinder.

The fluid has been flushed several times over the years, both before and after the stainless lines and new rear calipers were installed. The pedal does not continue to sink.
The ABS has not been bled recently, though the system has not gotten air from above. I use a pressure bleeder from Bavarian Auto Supply.
My thought is to change back to rubber lines as the stainless did not accomplish the desired goal. The Audi lines thru Sunset Audi are about $50.00 each. Other suppliers run about $15.00 or so including Blauparts who has the fronts at $15.00.
I kind of hesitate to reinstall the old 11 year old lines.
Do these cars typically have a high, firm pedal?
thanks Ed
