2008 a6 quattro jerky downshift issue
Hey everyone, Im new to these forums and I recently purchased a 2008 a6 3.2 quattro with 98k miles and absolutely love it. However, in the last couple weeks i have noticed that when braking, I can feel the car downshift and it jerks a little bit. It can be felt in moderate to heavy braking the most, mainly from 5th-4th and 4th-3rd downshifts.
Has anyone had similar problems with the jerky downshifting when braking? Im hoping it is a simple fix like a tcu reflash or software upgrade, and not something bigger. The car has all service records from the audi dealership and has been meticulously maintained. Thanks for all of your input!

I do not think that the tranny fluid has been flushed yet, for the last 99k miles. Dont see it in the records the previous owner gave me, which has been logged since they bought it CPO'd at 35k miles. Seems like a common recommendation is to flush and replace the tranny fluid and do a reflash/software update of the tcm? any input?

I would get on it asap. I've had a alot of sucess with the BG Flush system that uses the valvoline approved atf. Call around, I am sure you can find something.
I dont think that it is worth updating the tcm.
Another note. there is a chance that the tranny is on the way out and my need a rebuild. I've seen flushes do great things but there is a chance this could be the end. For less than 200 for a flush it is a small price. But I wouldn't wasn't any more time, go get it done and let us know how it turned out

Also, after another week of observation I can confirm that the problem only occurs when the engine is warmed up, car downshifts fine when started cold in the morning for a few minutes until it gets to normal temperature. This leads me to believe even more that it is the tranny fluid causing problems

I don't go through audi dealers for my tranny flushes, I don't know where you live but in Canada I go to Great Canadian Oil change or some local shops
call around and ask if they do the BG flush or similar
you may be right about the fluid, when it is cold it will be thicker, and when it warms up, it thins out specifically since its old
