Default Replaced Alternator a year ago....

Hello forum members,

I replaced the Alternator on my 2000 Audi A6 2.8L a little over a year ago and the now the battery light is back on, and is only charging around 11.8 volts.

I was wondering since it was a PITA to replace, if I can just get a way with replacing the VOLTAGE REGULATOR.

Thank You All

It's been my experienc ethat rebuilt alternators last about a year if you are lucky. The solution is to buy one from Audi and be done with it. I like to save money too, but rebuilt alternators are no good unless you are selling soon.

Just change the voltage regulator. On my 00 we did it with the alternator in the car, it wasn't the easiest thing to do but is doable.

So by changing just the regulator, it fixed your charging issue?

The most likely problem is the voltage regulator. Yes, after changing the voltage regulator my charging issues were resolved. Alternators are simple devices, not much can go wrong with them.
