steering / axle popping noise
This morning while backing out the A6 and turning wheel at both directions I heard some light popping sound. It was there for about 30 seconds then it stopped. Then I didn't hear it. Then again when I drove the car I heard the same sound and lasted about the first few seconds. Later in the afternoon when I drove the car again I didn't hear anything.
This is the first time I heard this noise and the weather was cold so not sure if it has anything to do with it.
Any ideas what it could be?
Thanks.

Popping like that is typical of worn CV joints. This normally happens when the boots crack/tear and the grease leaks out. The now-unlubricated joint pops as it turns. It can become lessened as any remaining grease moves around the joint, or as it heats up from use. If the boots are gone, the joints will probably require replacement. If you're lucky, just the boots can be replaced and the grease reserviced, but that is a rare treat. If they are making noise, that means there is excessive clearance within the joint assembly and replacement is the only cure. If the sound is more pronounced when the steering wheel is at full lock, it's almost certainly the CVs.

It is most likely going to be your upper control arm bushings that are worn. These control arms take alot of stress, but the design is what keeps Audi tires flat on the pavement through corners. If you sit still and turn the wheel from stop to stop you should notice a popping noise while turning, you can also jack it up and check for play.
