2001 A8L with P0020 Code
Hello Group, I have a 01 A8L 4.2L 168K mi on it with a P0020 code. I will also get misfire on a few cyl with this code. I have replaced the cam sensor on the drivers side but still throws code. It runs fine but am a bit worried because I am about to make a 1000mi trip to SC for work. Any help would be appreciated. I did a timing belt and water pump about 40K miles ago and this just started.

That code indicates an electrical problem (short to B+, short to ground or open circuit) with camshaft position actuator itself..not the camhaft position sensor...at the opposite end of cylinder head, drivers side.
Anything electrical is external: wiring or signal to actuator...or the solenoid on the actuator. Solenoid should read 10-18 ohms with volt/ohm meter.

The yellow arrow points at cam position sensor for bank 1.
The green arrow points at the electrical connection for the solenoid that controls the cam position actuator ("camshaft adjuster"...sorry, terminology) for bank 2...adjuster tensions chain under raised part of valve cover.
The parts are on opposite (reversed) ends on banks 1 and 2.
Photo is of my AUX engine ('01 A8) with belts removed, during T-belt change.
