Tach problem?
Hey guys,
I have been having an issue where the tach will stay stationary at 0 when I start the car for several seconds (3-7 usually). It got me worried enough that I took it down to the dealer and they said they and I quote "Found the problem and replaced the entire cluster because of it", although after I drove it for a week the problem came back. The car is still under warranty, but i'm wondering if this is something I should take back to them, or is this something that could possibly be caused by the APR remap that I had put into the ECU a while back. I know in the past you would first look at the cable that drove the tach, but since this is a fully digital cluster I havn't the slightest clue what to do with it, less take it back to the dealer again.
Just wondering if anyone had this problem before, and if they know the culprite.
Thanks,
Anthony

RE: Tach problem?
Possibly the engine speed sensor is failing. Do you have VAG-COM? You could log the RPM channel and see if you see similar data there. You can also use the climate control diagnostic functions to see the engine RPMs as well. See the instructions here. If VAG-COM and/or the climate control show the RPM correctly, then you like have a bad cluster or possibly a short somewhere in the wiring to the cluster.

RE: Tach problem?
Thanks for the link XCLR8TT. I'll check that out tonight when I get home and see what I come up with. I am a bit confused as the cluster was replaced by the dealership (I know because the old one had a small scratch in it). I don't have a VAG tool, although it seems that it wouldn't be a bad thing to pick up.
