DIY project turned bad
Have a 1999 Audi A4 Quattro 2.8L V6. It was running fine but developed a headlight problem. Headlights would only come on when column switch was held back. Replaced headlight column switch. Put everything back together and headlights worked fine. When starting the car immediately after the headlight repair, I found that it started but would not idle and died after just a few seconds. When it was running it seemed to be running too rich on fuel. Attempted several time with same results. Would appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks John

Assuming you disconnected the battery to swap the switch due to the airbag. What you need to do is re-sync the throttle. Disconnect the battery for an hour, then reconnect it. Turn the key on to position 2 ( full electrical power) but don't crank the engine. If the hood is open you'll hear a high pitch him from the back of the engine. Leave the key on for 15 seconds or so, then turn it off. Wait 3 minutes or so, and repeat. Repeat once again, and you'll be in better shape. That'll reset the throttle about 90% of the way and driving will finish the adaptation. It may still idle a little rough but it'll be better off and will relearn its programming with some miles.
