may be something loose inside the cluster? that pin was pretty well tweaked
Yeah, true. Wish I had the old sensor still! I could pull the VSS off my dad's A4 if need be. We know his works.

I'm hoping its not the cluster as that is the most expensive/impossible part to replace. Also, the pin that was bent was the signal output from the cluster to the CC module/ECU. The input is on the blue plug that didn't have a problem. I'm still thinking I have a signal input problem.

Do you think it's worth hooking up the jumper again to see if there is a voltage change from the sensor when spinning the wheel?

Yes check the basics- be sure it's working. I have mine on the hoist- I might be able to see what voltage is there koeo unplugged if you need it for ref.

That would be great! Thanks a lot.

I've been avoiding working on it the past couple days. Today I drove the car a mile to get gas, speedo didn't work. Got on the freeway, started working after 10 minutes for 17 miles continuously. Didn't work the whole way home.

I have not attempted the tried and true "smack it till it works" method. That worked when my old cluster's odometer screen would go out. I'll give it a shot this afternoon.

Smacked the cluster a few times, no results. I drove ~50 city miles today and the speedo didn't work once. Not surprised. It seems to work better on the freeway...

My G1W dash cam arrived today and I'm mighty impressed. It is MUCH smaller than I anticipated and super light. The mount it came with seems to be well made with easy to use but secure adjustments. I have it mounted just below my rear view mirror right now, I may move it further behind the mirror later. I wasn't able to record anything since my 32gb micro SD card hasn't shown up yet, but the picture quality looks great, even at night time. For $50 I'm really really impressed. With all cheap things though, it's the long term reliability that usually comes into question. Only time will tell there.

I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

Sorry I ran out of time and wanted to drive it home. I still have a control arm kit and bilsteins to install. I'll see what the voltage is then when I get it up in the air.

No worries smitty. Tomorrow I may do some work on it, not sure yet though.

Here are a few pictures of the G1W camera installed. I've been having some memory issues with it. I have to restart the camera to get it to start recording again, a bit of a pain in the ***...sometimes it'll work for 5 minutes, other times 2 hours. We'll see how it does. When it does work though, it works very well.

Here are some videos I've taken with it.

SUV running a red light and a compilation of "incidents" from driving last Saturday night.

I believe I've found the source of my VSS problems..it was the Meyle VSS replacement.

I pulled the known to be working VSS from my dad's A4 and replaced it with the Meyle one. He drove it for 10 miles and reported intermittent function, and a CEL.

I put his VSS in my car and my speedo has worked perfectly for 30 miles now. No codes stored.

That should've been one of the first things I tried. I had faith that the Meyle unit would be good. Oh well!

Glad you got that figured out.
