Those "grom" links don't give a lot of detail but it looks like they are intended to plug into the external CD changer port. Depending on the options you have in your car, that port might already be occupied. You'd need to pull your radio and see if you can use it.
As for the aforementioned mods, those make use of the Aux-In pins which aren't going to be occupied by some other option. It doesn't need to emulate a CD changer and provides a direct connection. The downside is, of course, the need to create your own jack/cable and program the radio to allow the use of the external aux (as it's called in the owner's manual). Once programmed, that's accessed by hitting the CD button twice once programmed (also according to the owner's manual). You can make the jack/cable connection you need for under $20 vs. $60 for the kit.
So, it just depends on what your radio does/doesn't already have plugged into it and how inclined you are to make your own aux-in adapter.

It only took about 45 minutes to hook it up. Maybe an hour.
The repair wires are probably about 6-9 inches long.
That would certainly do the trick and does make for a nice install. I tend to stay away from drilling holes, though, mainly for resale reasons.
No I didn't take any pictures, sorry. Here's an example of stripped RCA wire:
You can see the ground "shielding" on the left. You need to pull all of that away and twist it into a single "wire". Once it's all pulled away you'll see the center shielding (barely visible in the pic). This has the positive wire. Strip away the center shield (be very careful, not much wire here) and then you have your center wire. Do this on both wires. Then solder the two grounds together, then solder the repair wire to the ground. Lastly, solder a repair wire to each positive lead.
It should be much more obvious when you get to it. You could also use something like this if it makes you more comfortable:

This is what I finally decided to use to make the aux-in jack/cable. It took a lot of work on Google to find this particular cable but it was worth it.
$3.60 with free shipping @ http://www.frontx.com/store/order_pb.html (details @ http://www.frontx.com/pro/p090v1_030.html).
I am going to also get 2 repair wires 000 979 009 and solder the pins onto the three wires after I clip off the 1x3 connector on the cable above. I am planning to install the jack in the right-most dummy button above the stereo. At least then, I'll be drilling a hole in a replaceable part. I'll then be able to plug a 3.5mm male-to-male from my mp3 player into it and unplug it and throw it in the glove compartment or center armrest when I don't want it visible.
So, $3.60 for the cable and $8 for repair wires sets me back $11.60 for making it myself.

Do you guys have a navigation unit? All of the aux-input DIYs are for non-navi based units. I was just wondering how different it'd be and if anyone has bought a kit for their navigation units, if they could provide a link?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Ignore my previous post. Here's a great FYI site I found on this subject:
