Service Light
Hi all just wondering if anybody knows how to switch the service light off rather than going to a garage:)

RE: Service Light
button A is the odometer under the speedo and B is the dimmer under the rev counter.
OEL-OIL service light press and hold button A, switch ignition on, release button A, the letters OEL or OIL will appear in the odometer display of the speedometer. pull out button B until the letters are erased and replaced by *--* that's the oil service light reset.. now the inspection service light. press and hold button A. switch ignition on. release button A. the letters INSP will appear in the odometer display of the. if required clear the OEL-OIL indicator from the display as previously described |
RE: Service Light
Dave, my 1996 A6 Avant has a service indicator on it is 1n1. What does the code mean? Is there a way to reset?
Thanks. Oh btw, glad you are not dead.:) |
RE: Service Light
basically its a timer issue and nothing to worry about but ill look the rest data up

RE: Service Light
shorting pins 4/5 and 7 with a 1k ohms resistor resets the system, 4 is the ground 5 is the ground shield 7 is the K line so while the resistor is inserted between the pins it checks the system then when you turn the ignition off and back on within 15 seconds it checks and clears the last codes and so on airbags/abs/engine codes

RE: Service Light
pin 4 is the ground and pin 5 is the ground shield so either will serve as a ground;)

RE: Service Light
you have to keep the ignition on for 4.5 seconds for each system check and clearing

RE: Service Light
Thats a lot of things to do just to clear a service reminder.
Will a VAG be able to do it? If so where, because I had somebody VAG the car a while ago and could not figure out how to clear the service reminder. Also what is the 1n1 saying needs to be serviced? |
RE: Service Light
Dave's button kabuki dance procedure above worked on my 98 A6 2.8 Quattro for both the OIL and the INSP reminders when the procedure on the other threads did not. Thanks.
