WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THAT NOISE!!!!
Ok, I have a 2001 Audi A6 2.8L ... The car is making a high pitch noise coming from the engine compartment. Someone told me it seems to be the Powersteering pump..the noise pitch does change when I turn the wheel... This thing is driving me insane... Anyone has any thoughts??? Is there any way to test the powersteering pump or disable it to rule it out? I guess it would be difficult since you would have to remove the belt....
PLEASE ..ANYONE!!?? |

RE: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THAT NOISE!!!!
low fluid level - power steering pump - power steering belt too loose or worn

I am having a high pitch noise on cold starts near the back of the engine compartment, and it sounds like it's the air pump. Where is your sound coming from in the engine??

i had the same noise and it was the power steering pump/fluid level

RE: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THAT NOISE!!!!
I had the noise and had to replace the pump. Not to hard to do either. Pumps are about $100 used. I picked one up with 20K miles and it has been great. If it isn't that, I had a weird noise and it was the alternator failing.
