91 Audi 80 Q/bad fuel pump???
What's up guys, wondering if anybody had any insightinto the problem I'm having. Driving home just now, I hear a weezing sound coming from the driver side rear. I thought maybe it was something with the tire, hub, bearing etc, but upon further exam. I figure out it's coming from the fuel pump. I shut the car off, turn the key halfway, don't hear the noise, turn it on, I hear it again, although not as sharp. If itIS the fuel pump, should I change anything else while I'm at it, hoses, new lines etc? Any help would be appreciated. Here is a pic of the underside. Looks like a lot of stuff going on in there. Is this how it should look or was this a bypass rigging done by the previous owner?

RE: 91 Audi 80 Q/bad fuel pump???
What you are showing in the pic from right to left is the pump, accumulator, and filter which is a stock configuration. The noise (whine) you are hearing is the pump. My '89 80 fuel pump whined for years and I only replaced it to try to solve a problem I am currently having ( it isn't the pump), the aftermarket I put in is quiet until the car starts to stall out and then it whines.Bottom line is if you can deal w/ the noise, run it. If you decide to replace it I guess you could do the filter while you are playing w/ gas but beware that it holds a LOT of fuel and the hard lines that connect it can be tricky to deal with. Lastly, I believe your pump is gravity fed so pinch the line coming from the tank. HTH.
