Help, 1988 Audi E-Brake problem
 

Hey everyone

Hope someone can give me some insight in to a problem I am coming up with. My driver side rear E brake cable was seized along with the calipers, so i replaced both I installed them and tightened up the line. Now when I try to engage the E-brake it clicks and stiffens up but the brakes don't come on. The cables are moving and so are the calipers just not enough, so I adjusted all the way and tried again but all that happened was that i could only move up 2 clicks and the damn thing still would put the brakes on, only minor rubbing, so i tried a spacer in front of the adjuster nut, and the same problem occured lots of tension not much brake action. So in general im really confused if anyone has an idea or has been through the same problem and has a solution it would be extremly appreciated

The self adjuster sucks and doesn't work well. What I had to do was to turn the adjuster until the rotor wouldn't fit then turn the adjuster the opposite direction until the rotor fits snugly but not binding.

I had the same problem with my 1986 4000S. Unfortunately, in my case, it was because it turned out the car didn't have functional rear brakes- both wheel cylinders were leaking fluid, and the inside of the drum was completely soaked with it. Have you checked the rear brakes?
