question: i have a 93 audi 90 cs. when i'm driving in say stop n go traffic. it makes a weird sound. right when i let off the brakes it makes a hollow sqeaking sound until i get up to speed. it sometimes makes the sound in revolutions like it could be around the axle. i want to say it's coming from the front but i can't be sure. does anyone know what it could be?? anything i need to worry about?? thanx for the help!

 

Hard to say without actually hearing the noise, but breaks would probably be my bet. On my 91 100Q the back breaks squeak whenever they want to. It is kind of annoying driving down the road and hearing them.

To be on the safe side pull the wheels of and take a look to make sure they are wearing properly and you still have meat left on the pads.

 

thanx. i'll look at it. one more question w/ my car. when i turn the wheel it sounds like the steering wheel column is rubbing against something else. it's pretty annoying and i don't really think it's the power steering. i tend to just turn the music up and ignore it but is it something important?

 

If the noise is coming from inside the cabin and only when you turn the wheel then it could be the brush/s for the horn, etc. I have had this happen a few times on different vehicles. If the noise is coming from inside the engine compartment then it could be several things. A loose belt on the hydraulic pump, dry bearings, worn rack and pinion, strut bearings, bushings, etc.
