Default Odometer failure

Recently the odometer in my 1987 AUDI 80 has just stopped working.
Has anyone an idea what could be the cause or how to fix it.

Thanks.

The problem is most likely the gear that runs the odometer and tripometer. Part is $25 and takes an hour or so to put it in. That was the problem on my 1988 90.
